It's not sheltered or not. I Guess u miss the whole point of why such orientation have no point in adding such "games". If u are the guy yeah shiok shiok but if ur gf or Daughter is the one? Uni is still a place for education. If India is ok with rapes meaning sg girls get rape here also we must condon?

Honestly, the orientations in U.S. Or UK universities are much wilder. This is nothing. Just that these ppl are to 'sheltered' from the real world

What they're doing is simulated sex or even simulated rape. BTW It's not ok.

The student in charge n his committee is mistaking crass, lewd, obscene behavior as breaking the ice n camaderie actions. Or these fcukers are trying to chee Hong or molest the girls hiding behind the name of Nus.

If they sit mrt n ask gals you wan to drink my cum? You think they won't kanna? Or during class, they openly talk about orgasm, you think they won't tio complain? Or shun or condemned?

You think adults in commercial or speed dating or in company team building run around groping the girls? Or Ask them wan to drink my cum?

All these idiots in charge should lose their comfy single room in hostels n CCA points become zero. That's letting them go easy cos they could easily all get expelled

Not only did they force the freshmen to complete these disgusting acts, I bet they slam those who object to this in the committee as boring, juvenile, spoilsport.

Breaking ice n making friends neednt be based on sex ok. N talk about sex n simulating sex doesn't make one 'cool'.

And the idiots at nus who didn't monitor these idiots running amok for years should get sacked too

NUS should investigate and have disciplinary actions.

I remember during my times in NUS, 20 yrs ago that was the fun for us.
The most fun was the "pond dunking" or "ponding" rituals where the fresh gals will be instructed to wear white T shirt before 4 guys holding her limbs will submerged her into the pond and raising her up for consecutive 10 times. Believe me , the senior gals were the ones who would unhooked the freshgal's bra and shift their bra CUP off position before the guys start the dunking initiation so we all can see their nipples in the process!

Great for singles not for those attached i guess.

I wonder who organise these games. Ang moh or local student. University is a place to study not a adult film studio. I guess there is some skeletons in nus where seniors can get any juniors they want or the lecturers are promoting this.

actually tbh, things have tone down alot.
reports, articles and the freshmen going thru it are really exaggerating the incident of inappropriate games or cheers during the orientation.

Student leaders are told and reminded campers that they can no need to join in the games or cheers if they are uncomfortable with it.
Is just one or two freshmen being too protected and not exposed to a slightly open culture.

Its actually rather sad that NUS suspends all freshman orientation camps, instead of investigating and dealing with the "offensive" ones. I mean, there are (or there should be), after all, some camps that are not this sexual. Because at the other end of the sexual spectrum, we still gotta let those more decent kids have some breaking in right?

How about a camp where during the activities, one faculty staff member is present to facilitate and ensure rules are followed? The faculty member doesn't have to be 100% there, just pop by as and when to check out, and also involved in the planning of activities.... This could help already right?

Nus is the Civil service ok.

If their boss don't even know wads ok or not ok, you think the fac staff know?

I can guarantee u the fac staff who go, 1000% won't know wads permissible or not. They'll rather do OT till 2 am than supervise students.

If students ask if we grab ger n throw in air ok?
Staff will gabra.
Students say how bout we grab guy n throw?
Staff will think if guy is gay how?

The new SOP will b student leaders must submit one month in advance, two programs in DETAIL & must be adhered no matter Wat. Including all cheers.

Why two? In case rain ma.

The SOP will be approved by nus AND MOE. In MOE, cos all kiasi, MINISTER will approve.

And must b filmed. Including audio.

yeah agree.

feels a bit guilty when this report came out and many parents was worrying for their kids. we had our fun in halls, almost can change one new girl everyday especially right after OG and bonding is strong and homones raging.

Have to admit, the games are done on purpose to make each other horny and many girls do not mind. Of course there are nerdy and guai ones and conquering those makes it even better. most of them are so nerd they won't even know how they are taken advantage of in games.

You all don't understand!
Nus is a self declared top university, tasked to produce a future generation of fcuked up leaders n pillars for a fake country like spore.

They groom hypocrite cowards who are Stingy cheapskates who rather take advantage of naive gers for free in the name of orientatiob than pay for it in ktv. Not only are they fake people, they're bullies too.

So they act all innocent n beg for donations n next day, vent their frustrations suffered from the public by morlesting their classmates n ask them they prefer to blow circumsized Dicks? Or uncut?

These students will learn from NUS management who will rather siam, tcss than be responsible for their wrongdoings n resign or committ hari kiri

Fcuked up future generation of a fake country.

Action taken against NUS students for role in inappropriate orientation activities

SINGAPORE - Action has been taken against at least 14 undergraduates from the National University of Singapore (NUS) for their role in inappropriate orientation activities, in July, The Straits Times has learnt.

Sources said the punishment included warnings without record and mandatory community service. The duration of the community service is not known.

It is understood that the students were involved in organising or facilitating orientation camps, including the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and the students' union.

The Straits Times understands that the undergraduates can appeal against the decisions.

When contacted, NUS declined to give details. A university spokesman told The Straits Times: "To safeguard the fairness of the proceedings and the privacy of all concerned, student disciplinary matters are internal to NUS."

In July, The New Paper reported on the risque orientation games that freshmen were asked to play, including one that simulated rape.

The report, which said the risque orientation games have been going on for years despite complaints to the university authorities, triggered a public outcry.

Straits Times report on disciplinary action over inappropriate orientation activities 'factually inaccurate': NUS

SINGAPORE: A report by the Straits Times on action taken against National University of Singapore (NUS) students for their role in inappropriate orientation activities is "factually inaccurate", NUS said in a statement on Thursday (Sep 22).

The Straits Times had reported on Thursday that at least 14 NUS students have been disciplined in connection with the activities, and their punishments ranged from "warnings without record and mandatory community service".

"When The Straits Times approached the university with the incomplete and inaccurate information yesterday, NUS had indicated to the newspaper that there were a number of inaccuracies and gaps in the information The Straits Times had obtained," said NUS.

"The university had also explained in writing and over the telephone that NUS is unable to comment on the details of the disciplinary proceedings or the sanctions imposed as the disciplinary process is not yet complete. NUS had requested that the newspaper refrain from publishing incomplete and inaccurate information, and said that university would be in a better position to respond to media queries when the disciplinary process is complete in October 2016," it added.

NUS took issue with the following information in the Straits Times report as "incomplete and inaccurate":

SINGAPORE - The National University of Singapore (NUS) has taken action against 30 senior students for their role in inappropriate orientation activities in July.

In a circular sent to students on Thursday (Oct 13) afternoon and obtained by The Straits Times, Professor Tan Eng Chye, NUS' deputy president (academic affairs) and provost, stated the range of punishments meted out. These included suspension for one semester, fines of up to $2,000 and mandatory community service of up to 100 hours.

Other disciplinary actions included behavioural rehabilitation programmes "focused on respect and socially acceptable behaviour", statements of reflection on the incidents, and official reprimands which will be on permanent records.

The students disciplined had roles in orientation camps, among them for the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sheares Hall and the NUS Students' Union.

The offences ranged from "disorderly and offensive behaviour, to organising and participating in improper orientation activities that potentially put other students' physical welfare at risk".

The investigations involved about 400 senior students and freshmen. It included analysing media and social media content and materials related to the orientation activities, obtaining information from faculty advisors and students, as well as face-to-face interviews with those involved.

Those who were found to be responsible for inappropriate behaviour were brought before disciplinary boards following the investigations. The disciplinary process took place between August and early October.

NUS lists guidelines for more wholesome orientation activities

They include having a safety officer to watch over activities, training for student leaders

Yuen Sin

Come the next National University of Singapore (NUS) freshman orientation, there will be one more person attending: a student safety officer to whistle-blow on inappropriate activities.

Workshops will also be conducted beforehand with student leaders and staff advisers to ensure they lead activities in a "safe and respectful" manner.

These are among the new guidelines released by the university yesterday in an effort to stamp out a decade-old practice of raunchy orientation games.

The latest iteration, in late July this year, was especially controversial: NUS students complained about being coerced into taking part in sexually suggestive activities, including being forced to simulate a rape scene.

It led to the suspension of some student-organised orientation activities and calls for a comprehensive review of how activities at orientation camps are carried out. Disciplinary action was also taken against 30 senior students for their role in the activities.

In a circular sent to students yesterday and obtained by The Straits Times, NUS' deputy president (academic affairs) and provost Tan Eng Chye listed the recommendations by a 13-member orientation review committee, which included faculty members, student leaders and alumni. The university management has studied its report and accepted all recommendations, he said.

About 160 students, including orientation committee members and freshmen living on campus, were also consulted.

Measures include a new framework for orientation. Guiding principles state that orientation should be "enjoyable, educational and memorable". All freshmen should also feel "welcomed, assured and supported".

The selection process for student leaders of orientation camps will be tightened, with a selection panel made up of mostly students putting candidates through tests to demonstrate whether they have the right values and attitudes. At least one student leader will also be appointed as a safety officer at each camp, and he or she will report on or put a stop to inappropriate behaviour.

Student orientation leaders selected will have to undergo face-to- face workshops with experienced trainers following complaints that senior students leading orientation activities either initiated or allowed unapproved activities to carry on.

GIVING CLARITY

It will provide a platform to clear students' doubts about what is ethical or legal when organising activities.

MR DELANE LIM, chief executive of international youth development firm FutuReady Asia, who welcomed efforts to introduce a training framework .

Recommendations

•A new orientation framework will have guiding principles for student organisers, including making orientation "enjoyable, educational and memorable", and that all freshmen should also feel "welcomed, assured and supported".

•Selection process for student leaders of orientation camps will be more stringent, with a selection panel made up of mostly students.

•At least one student leader will be appointed as a safety officer at each orientation camp, and he or she will report on or put a stop to inappropriate behaviour.

•Staff advisers and the Office of Student Affairs will continue to approve plans for orientation.

Previously, orientation guidelines did not have these additional layers of checks or personal training. In the past, student leaders went through written materials with examples of "dos and don'ts". They were also briefed about banned activities such as those involving physical intimacy between members of the opposite sex and ragging.

A practice that requires staff advisers and the Office of Student Affairs to approve plans for orientation will continue, and workshops and talks that "enhance awareness and promote diversity, sensitivity and respect among the student community" should also be adapted and incorporated into orientation programmes by more student groups, said the circular.
