SINGAPORE - The body of a man was found in a pool of blood at Geylang Lor 23 on Sunday morning (July 9).

The police said in a statement that they received a call at 8am requesting for assistance at Lorong 23 Geylang.

"Upon arrival, a 52-year-old man was found lying motionless at the said location and he was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene at about 8.11am," the police said.

According to the Shin Min Daily News, the victim is a Chinese man who used to work at 'Zi Char' stall at a coffeeshop at the corner of Geylang Lor 23.

A regular patron of the coffeeshop told Stomp that the victim still frequented his former workplace.

He described the victim as a 'very nice person', but was a little bit hot-tempered.

Another contributor to citizen journalism website Stomp said that the victim was earlier involved in a quarrel with 'an old chap'.

The contributor told Stomp that the old man left the scene, only to return with a weapon.

A taxi driver, Mr Teo, told Shin Min that he was having his breakfast at the coffeeshop when he witnessed the incident unfold.

The victim appeared weak and was still alive when Mr Teo called the ambulance.

Lianhe Wanbao reported that the victim had a deep cut on the left side of his ear to the top of his head. A wooden stick and bloodied knife were found at the crime scene.

It is unclear what caused the dispute and what happened to the other party involved.

Police are investigating the unnatural death.
