I am one of those who fancies the strong, firm grip, pressure massages. Nothing better than a skilful pair of hands that can loosen the stiffness and aches.

Not too long ago, met up with a friend. She used to go for massages because she tends to have backaches. Once she went to a traditional Thai massage, where the masseuse actually steps on the back. During the course of it, she heard a soft crack sound. She didn’t think too much of it. You know, like the type of crack one hears when twisting the head or stretching the arms sometimes.

Next day, she felt so pain she had difficulty trying to get up from bed. Eventually she went to the doctor or specialist. After some examinations, she found out it was worse than she expected. One of the bones from her spine broke.

She then realised all along, the pain was not so much caused by aching muscles but there was a stress fracture on her spine. During the stepping, the force actually worsen the fracture causing the bone to break.

She underwent operation not too long later.

Hope it won’t happen to the rest of us. There’s nothing wrong with those back stepping massages. Just be careful of any persisting pain, doesn’t mean it is always due to muscle aches.

Cheers!

KCHA is right - be mindful of the ML + MP u visited......many are inexperienced newbies or worse....untrained masseuse with zero certificate.

Always look for MP with Certified + Experienced ML - any persistent pain after massage should be taken seriously.

A bone scan X-ray + Orthopaedic consultation can cost you hundreds of dollars $$$

My humble advice is to Know your ML - KEEP a list of REGULAR MP + ML who prove themselves.

For many Samsters visiting new MP + ML can be FUN + EXCITING - but getting yourself spinal cracks is NOT MUCH FUN .....🤕😷🤒

Good post by TS.
Normally I avoid stepping as it can be dangerous.

I also tell the masseuse to go easy on the shoulder as its another area that can easily get injured.

Remind me of my friend after stepping massage in Thailand. He feels very pain, the moment he touch down went straight to GH A & E. Lucky is crack on spine. He got MC for 1 month. Now I reject all step massage especially age catching up bone can crack anytime.

I usually will try the ML for a few times first to confirm their massage skill before letting them do back stepping or waist twisting, and neck twisting is definitely a no no regardless of their skill level as it is way too high a risk to take.

Usually Thai massagers are pretty well skilled to do it. As for PRC better to be safe unless those working in TCM and are certified.

I know At west side of Singapore, there is one good ml that give hard message and she is good.

But no special from her as it is clean joint..

She will Attack your 4 limbs and that is the fucking painful one.

Unlike others where people use full force just on stepping, this one has limited steppings and using is by hand or elbow which has lower risk of breaking bones.

Power 69 THANKS FOR YR POWER comments. 🖒

Massage therapy itself carries a risk of in jury to the subject being manipulated - whether it is Chinese TCM or THAI MASSAGE therapy.

It is thus important for consumers (being subjects) to understand that any persistent pain do occur. Thus subsequent 3rd party doctor consultation maybe necessary.

Do not delay if you feel unusual lingering pain day after massage - it could be due to masseuse mis-handling.

Same advice my regular ML told me... If trying new ml, be careful on the back-stepping part. Cos if done wrongly can be dangerous.
Same for the neck twisting and the back twisting.

Do chiong with care everyone.

Whatever types of service, all cums with a risk factor, you choose to accept it therefore bear the consequences. Otherwise even if you go see professional chiropractor also no quarantee.

Bro for stepping usually they will know where to step you . I believe there are about 4 or 5 pressure points on either side of the spine if I am not wrong . The most dangerous ones are those bone cracking . However they would not do it to a small skinny guy . For most of us will be able to tell if the masseur is well trained or not by simply the way she touch us.

If really like stepping, then visually assess the ML before allowing them to do it. No fatty bom boms

Bro, agree this is true if the ML is skillful, but there are too many ML who only know little bit and pretend to be master, by the time she is on your back it is too late to realise she is only simply stepping on your back.

So many massage lovers end up with bone misalignment at their back after years of Cheoging..............

Thanks to SBF (and our boss Samuel) - we can tap on the wealth of good information provided by various threads here - particularly threads from Reputable Samsters.

After reading the threads + referencing from fello Samsters - we can at least Cheong SAFELY - with the Right MP + ML :D:D

That is why I normally will test water with the ML . If the ML ask me which part of my body hurts . I will normally say the neck and shoulders . If the ML really knows how to massage she would use the appropriate strength and a be able to pinpoint the exact spot . For most of us who loves a good massage will know if the ML has got the skill or not . Cannot bluff one . My second visit I will tell the ML my bottom back hurts and buttoks also need a massage as I sit too long on an office chair. So from there you can tell whether the ML knows her stuff or not . :) If the ML knows her stuff then I will let her step on my back . Some prefer to use their elbows . Some ML thinks we don't know anything about massage so try to bluff us by touching here and there . This type of ML I would not support anymore.

Another thing to beware of is when massage girls slap our lower backs where our kidneys are. I find it painful. So far where my kidneys r don't feel painful after the massage n I haven't urinated blood.

The minute you realise that she is doing something wrong immediately politely tell the ML to stop doing it . Don't forget YOU are the paying customer .

Wah bro was the misalignment caused by rough massages?

the misalignment was resulted due to some intensive activities in a foreign country and nothing to do with massages.. :)

there was once a masseuse sounding sternly to me i should voiced out my injury prior to any massage so they will know what to look out for.. i was just trying to convey her message to everyone here.. :o

Good reminder from Archer bro -

Experienced masseuse always check with customers if he/she has any nagging pain or past injuries to any part of the body.

Inexperienced or $ grabbing masseuse will skip this important question. Many are only interested in customers answers to their own important GQ - golden question !

So know your body well + get to know your masseuse well - at same time 😆
