Android 6.0 Rolling Out To The LG G4 In Canada

It looks like the LG G4 will finally start receiving its Android 6.0 Marshmallow upgrade today on Telus’ network and Wednesday on Rogers’ network. Bell does not maintain a software upgrade schedule, so we are not sure when they plan to upgrade their LG G4…hopefully, it will not be too far behind. All manufacturers, LG included, have been criticized for not having timely updates for even their flagship devices. LG announced in 2015 that they were committing themselves to improving their upgrades, as well promising multiple upgrades for its 2014 LG G3 and 2015 LG G4 smartphones. As with all upgrades, it will be rolling out eventually to your device, but you can always ‘force’ it along by going into the settings and checking for updates. As best as we can tell, the LG G3 should receive their Marshmallow update in the middle of March.
The LG G4 is a great device with overall improvements from its G3 predecessor, and then throw Marshmallow into the mix and we have a winner. It sports a 5.5-inch QHD LCD Quantum display with 538 pixels-per-inch (PPI) and LG claims their improved display allows for a 25-percent brighter display with a 50-percent increase in the contrast and 56-percent improvement to the color accuracy. LG chose Qualcomm’s 64-bit Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor after deciding to pass on the Snapdragon 810. LG optimized the 808 for the LG G4 and should be easier on its battery. It is packing 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, but also has room for expansion via a microSD card. The LG G4 has one of the best smartphone cameras on the market with a 16MP sensor, their fast laser autofocus, dual-tone LED Flash, and a wide f/1.8 aperture for better shots in low light and includes OIS+. The LG uses a large 8MP FFC camera that also includes the wider f/1.8 aperture lens and it should take excellent selfies and provide great video chatting. It uses a removable 3000 mAh battery for power.
Marshmallow adds a few features with new and improved power management features and one in particular is called Doze…the OS can literally suspend applications that are being used infrequently. Those annoying power-consuming features that are not being used when your smartphone is idle with its lock screen, will Doze off. AutoSync and location sensors are two prime examples – however, pick up your device and these features will be reactivated. You will see a complete visual overhaul, especially if the manufacturer has a light UI. Rather than relying on a manufacturer to add the option – the ability to control application permissions are now baked into Marshmallow. Google Now on Tap is also part of Marshmallow and this gives you the ability to ask Google for help with whatever is currently showing on your display
