I wonder if there is a MGTOW for woman. I mean if this 67 yr old ah ma followed the women's MGTOW she wouldn't be caught in this situation.
SINGAPORE: When his 67-year-old girlfriend ended their two-year relationship, he threatened to expose sexually explicit photographs and videos of her unless she paid him S$100,000.
Calvin Mok Wai Lun was sentenced to 13 weeks’ jail on Friday (Nov 3).
Mok met his victim online in 2013, after the woman contacted him through a “rent a boy” website while holidaying in Hong Kong. The 41-year-old Hong Kong national worked as a freelance masseur, providing massage and sexual services.
The two became close, and kept in touch via messaging service WhatsApp when the woman returned to Singapore. Over the next two years, the woman would pay for Mok to accompany her on her travels around South-east Asia. On top of this, she would also give Mok a “rental fee”, knowing that he was under financial strain.
In July this year, the woman decided she no longer wanted to carry on their relationship, and informed Mok that she would cease financially supporting him. Upset, Mok demanded a S$100,000 lump sum payment to end their relationship, and threatened to send sexually explicit photographs and videos of the woman to her family and colleagues.
Mok, who made these threats via WhatsApp when he was in Hong Kong and the victim was in Singapore, said he would “ruin her career and destroy her reputation” if she did not pay him the sum he had asked for.
Alarmed, the woman reported the matter to the police. Mok was arrested in September at Changi Airport. He had come to Singapore to collect payment from the woman.
A photograph of the woman in the nude and two video clips of the couple engaged in sexual acts were found on Mok’s mobile phone.
EXPLICIT PHOTOS, VIDEOS WERE TAKEN WITHOUT THE VICTIM’S CONSENT
Deputy Public Prosecutor Sheryl Janet George sought a 14 to 16-week jail term for Mok, pointing to several aggravating factors in the case, including the significant amount that Mok had intended to extort from the woman, and his “relentless” threats to disseminate the explicit content.
The most notable aggravating factor, however, was that Mok had taken the photographs and videos without the victim’s consent, DPP George said. This distinguishes the present case from others in which the victims voluntarily provided nude photos of themselves, which were then used against them. Mok had “abused the trust they had while in a consensual relationship”, he said.
In mitigation, Mok’s lawyer Troy Yeo told the court that this is “a sobering lesson” for Mok, who is “aware that he has done something very wrong” in taking advantage of the woman. Mok committed the offence out of desperation after being harassed by parties he owed money to, said Mr Yeo.
In delivering his judgment, District Judge Lim Tse Haw said it was clear that Mok’s actions were “clearly planned, premeditated, calculated and deliberate”. The judge also lamented the increasing incidences of crime committed via platforms such as WhatsApp, which can be used as a tool to carry out “faceless threats”. Judge Lim pointed out that if Mok had not travelled to Singapore intending to collect the money, there would have been a “real unlikelihood” of him getting caught.
Under the Protection from Harassment Act, Mok could have been jailed up to six months and fined up to S$5,000.
