It is an incredibly worrying pattern. One that can derail our longevity as a nation. But there appears to be nothing concrete to address this. The government even seems to be taking a “suibian lor” (nonchalant) stance. Perhaps it is because there is research on the matter (below) and the research finds that “anti-PAP and pro-democratic ideas strongly influence” the brain drain.

Perhaps some of these citizens were even MOE teachers who came into contact with the colonel-principal. Even the PAP’s new slate of candidates with game-show hosts included (Darryl David) appear to reflect our very serious brain drain.

In fact the researchers state that the PAP “has adopted a policy of increasing reliance on a foreign labor force” in a reactionary capacity. I feel, this, combined with our low birth rate, may mean there will no longer be true-blue Singaporeans 150-200 years from now. The government may have been trying to scare us with tales of unrest in Malaysia and Indonesia recently, but, at least we can safely assume their people will still be around 150-200 years from now (barring some sort of natural disaster or war). Can we say the same for Singapore?

People have long said Singapore is solely run through the prism of economics. However, do you really think having low productivity figures, a brain drain and being one of the most expensive cities in the world will be good for our economy?
