An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Chiam resigned as Sec-Gen of SDP in 1993.
SPP was founded soon after. Chiam joined SPP in 1997. He won Potong Pasir again and was de facto Opposition leader.
He founded SDA in 2001 and achieved new heights. It was a grand alliance of 4 parties. Chiam continued as the de facto Opposition leader. WP paled in comparison. Low has just mentioned how WP was pressured to join the alliance then.
It is disingenuous of the PAP and its proxies to portray Chiam falling because of his leaving SDP. Even the judge commented that Chiam brought it upon himself. It's been a whopping 18 years. He is still the Sec-Gen of SPP. He should be associated with SPP, not SDP. Even if he was fixed in 1993 (a highly debatable argument), 22 years have passed.
SDP is what it is today due to the efforts of Chee in the last 5 years.. We've seen with our own eyes how the party has grown tremendously in the last 5 years. We've seen how SDP became the second most-organised party after WP.
On the other hand, we've seen the non-stop disagreements in SPP and SDA.
This is a video taken at RP Inauguration dinner. It happened many years ago. Chiam approached SDP and was friendly towards Chee.
P.S. A few years back, Chiam proclaimed that he was proud to have founded SDP, SPP and SDA. It is a verifiable fact.
