With GE2015 looming, train delays are still happening every other week.

Yesterday (13 Aug), train service on the North-South MRT line was delayed
again during evening peak hour.

At 6.32 pm, SMRT tweeted that commuters should expect an additional 10
minutes’ travelling time from Marina Bay to Ang Mo Kio, towards Jurong East.
This was due to a track fault near Bishan, said SMRT.

In an update at 7.00 pm, SMRT said commuters should expect an additional 15
minutes’ travelling time instead.

At 8.25 pm, SMRT tweeted that train services were running normally.

Angry commuters complained that trains repeatedly stalled between stations.
Twitter user, @jing_lebelle, tweeted, “So now we are stuck in #SMRT! Walau
ehhhh.”

Some netizens were becoming immune to such news:

Meanwhile, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew has announced that he will be
stepping down from politics and will not contest in the next election (‘Minister Lui throws in the towel after only 2 terms (http://www.tremeritus.com/2015/08/11/transport-minister-lui-throws-in-the-towel-after-2-terms/)‘).

At the time time, WP chief Low Thia Khiang said that the circumstances
surrounding Mr Lui’s decision to quit leave many questions unanswered.

Mr Low said, “I thought he’s a hardworking minister and goes to the ground to
try his best to resolve transport issues. It’s a loss to the Cabinet. He’s an
experienced minister with experience helming different ministries.”

Mr Low noted that Mr Lui, 53, is “relatively young” and can still contribute
to the nation given his experience helming different ministries.

But Mr Low also queried the Minister’s sudden and unexpected resignation,
“Was it because of the recent incident of the MRT big breakdown, or is it
because he feels that he has not been supported by his Cabinet colleagues, who
are supposed to work as a team to give him enough confidence to stay on and to
solve the issues?”

“I thought the standard ethos of the PAP is that resignation doesn’t solve
the problem. You have to stay on to solve the problem as a minister, so I cannot
understand why it happened at this time.”

He said the public deserve to know exactly why Mr Lui resigned (‘LTK: Public deserve to know why Lui is quitting (http://www.tremeritus.com/2015/08/13/ltk-public-deserve-to-know-why-lui-is-quitting/)‘).

Will a WP-led coalition government do a better job than PAP of solving
Singapore’s transport problems? What do you think?
