The daughter of late federal member for Canning Don Randall has been touted as a possible Liberal candidate in the upcoming by-election.
The Liberal Party opened nominations for the crucial vote following Mr Randall's sudden death last month.
Mr Randall turned Canning into a Liberal stronghold with a margin of almost 12 per cent.
But his death has forced a by-election and the party is now turning its attention to who will contest the seat.
One name that has been touted as a possible contender is his daughter, Tess Randall, who works in the electorate office of Foreign Minister Julie Bishop.
Liberal sources told the ABC she was considering the move but it was not clear whether she would nominate.
Political analyst Peter Kennedy said she would be a strong candidate if she decided to run.
"Well you can see the link there between the Randall family and the seat and there would be, I guess, a strong emotional attachment if she decided to contest the seat and was endorsed because of Don Randall's strong personal following and that, you'd think, would then be knocked on to her and would be a benefit for her and the Liberal Party," he said.
"Obviously that would be a very interesting move on behalf of the Liberal Party."
Nominations for Liberal pre-selection close on Wednesday.
Other names being floated are former divisional presidents Paul Fitzpatrick and Steve Cleaver as well as Andrew Hastie who has served in the armed forces.
The party is hoping to launch its candidate at its state conference in a fortnight.
Labor is expected to open nominations next week.

One person who has already expressed an interest in nominating for Labor is the president of the Law Society of WA, Matt Keogh.
Mr Kennedy said he expected it to be a "blockbuster" by-election.
"This will be a very crucial by-election and it could set the scene for politics over the next 12 months," he said.
"If there's a big swing against the Liberal Party that would be a big setback for the party and also the Prime Minister and could raise question marks again over the Prime Minister's leadership.
"It will be a big budget by-election from both major parties because so much is at stake.
"The Liberal Party can't afford to lose the seat and the Labor Party wants to get as big a swing as possible and perhaps its best possible scenario, win the seat."
The date for the by-election is yet to be determined which is a task for the new Speaker to announce.
