Road to riches: $52,000 cash found on Singapore highway
IT’S raining money ... Drivers on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in Singapore were a little distracted when they noticed money scattered across the road.
The incredible incident was captured on video and uploaded on the Singapore Reckless Drivers Community YouTube channel. It shows the road littered with RM50 ($17.40) notes and people can be seen running onto the road in front of oncoming traffic in the bid to collect some of the money for themselves.
One witness told Lianhe Wanbao newspaper that she was on a bus when she saw the money flying around. Some passengers asked the driver if he would stop so they could pick up some of the notes, but he refused, reported The Straits Times.
The money belonged to a moneychanger who was on his way to meet a client. He had RM150,000 ($52,217) in his bag, and hadn’t realised that it wasn’t zipped shut when he rode his motorbike along the expressway.
Five minutes later, his father, who had heard that people were picking up money from the road, called as he suspected it was his son’s. By the time the man returned to the scene, there was just RM50 ($17.40) left.
He said the incident has taught him a valuable lesson.
