Newly-promoted J-League team Matsumoto Yamaga are interested in signing Singapore goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud following his heroic performance in the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Asian Cup joint qualifiers.

The 24-year-old custodian showed an impressive display in a ‘shocking’ goalless draw against Japan at Saitama Stadium last week, which led to a training invitation from the Ptarmigans.

“It’s hard to judge from one game, but he had a dominating performance,” said the Yamaga’s vice-president Yoshiyuki Kato was quoted by Straits Times.

“The way he threw himself about and kept his concentration throughout was very impressive and we would like to see him in practice.”

Izwan currently plies his trade in Malaysia Super League for LionsXII and the trial opportunity could lead him to follow the path of Indonesian star Irfan Bachdim and Timor Leste’s Murilo Almeida, whose play in Japan.
