Runners in Singapore now have extra reason to participate in NTUC Income RUN 350, Organised by Young NTUC. Officially launched on 25th Nov at Raffles Green, the organisers kick started the first green activity by distributing seedlings to the first 100 registrants to bring home and grow.

With registration commencing today for the 6th edition of Southeast Asia’s premier eco-run, they each took home a seedling pack containing seed bombs, along with a 100PLUS 500ml bottle. The runners and curious onlookers were also introduced to creative vertical gardening where innovative ways of reusing plastic bottles for gardening were on display at the launch.

The organisers hope to have these runners bring home and nurture the seedlings and sustain it till race day. Runners are also encouraged to document and share the growth of their plants with fellow runners by uploading pictures onto their Instagram and hashtag #RUN350sg.

Come race day on 5 April, the organisers will install vertical gardening walls at the race village where runners will get to showcase their plants they’ve grown.

“RUN 350 is the epitome event of 350 Singapore. Since we started in 2010, 350 Singapore has spearheaded several environmental initiatives. Through a popular sport like running, Young NTUC’s intention is to bring more people into the 350 movement and help to inspire positive change. The CO2level in the atmosphere has hit 400 parts per million, a first time in 800,000 years. Youths of today must preserve a Singapore of the same or better environmental conditions for our future generations,” said Mr. Steve Tan, Executive Secretary of Young NTUC.

12,000 runners are expected for the 2015 edition of NTUC Income RUN350, Organised by Young NTUC and will be seen running through the Kallang waterfront and past iconic landmarks such as the Sports Hub. The half-marathoners taking part in the 21.1km category will get to race along Nicoll Highway and head on to Gardens by the Bay before finishing off at the F1 Pit Building.

“All of us can create a better tomorrow by managing and using our resources responsibly today. This is true for our financial well-being – the right decisions made now can have a huge impact on our future especially in insurance planning. It also applies to the environment, where every little effort to conserve what nature provides for us and every endeavour to reduce wastage can make a significant difference to the world our next generation lives in,” shared Mr Marcus Chew, Senior Vice President and Head, Strategic Marketing and Communications, NTUC Income.

RUN 350 2015 will have three categories and these are the 21.1km and10km categories for the competitive runners and the highly popular 800m Kids Dash. The age group for the Kids Dash has been expanded to include children aged four to 12.

Early Bird registration commenced today and will conclude on 11 January 2015. NTUC Income Policyholders, NTUC members, nEbO members and loyal runners will stand to enjoy preferential discounts off the regular race fees.

Run for a greener future.
