While Apple Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co. may have agreed to end its patent war overseas, the companies aren't letting up in the U.S.
In the latest, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has rejected a number of claims Apple cited in a patent-infringement suit with its South Korean rival, CNET reported.
Patent No. 8,074,172 concerns a feature of a touch screen display on a portable electronic device that automatically suggests a word when a user types on a keyboard. Apple claimed Samsung infringed on its autocomplete patent.
The patent ruling doesn't close the case on the patents and it won't impact the district judge's decision on the case, but Samsung has already cited the decision as evidence against the protracted patent battle.
In April, Apple won $119.6 million in damages when the U.S. District Court of Northern California ruled that seven devices by Samsung had infringed on the patent.
