Health Minister Gan Kim Yong explained in parliament that MOH is currently in the process of seeking full reimbursement from their IT vendor for over $64,000 that they had mistakenly paid dead people thanks to an IT error.
Minister Gan said that it was not MOH's fault as the error was with the IT systems provided by their vendor.
The Auditor General had found that 99 people had been paid a combined $64,000 from Interim Disability Assistance Program for the Elderly (IDAPE) funds even after they had passed away.
These payouts were supposed to end upon their death but MOH had continued to pay out to beneficiaries.
Pushing the blame, Mr Gan explained that the mistake was on the part of the IT vendor that MOH had engaged in 2002 to administer the IDAPE. The error had occurred because the death list was not updated in specific months when the vendor had migrated its IT systems.
Mr Gan said the errors has already been fixed and they are not in the process of getting their money back from the IT vendor. It was stated as part of the original tender, that the vendor would need to pay back any overpayment which resulted from their systems.
They have also implemented a new system which should alert them to errors in data uploading and processing.
