I wonder how many remember Bernard the man who spent 29 years making our Zoo world famous, an icon and went on to build the World's first Night Safari.
He could not get along with old man's brother in law who became the Chairman of the Zoo after the demise of founding visionary Chairman Dr Ong Swee Law.
Old Man's daughter in law takes over the Zoo and the Bird Park and hands it over to the famous MacDonald duo of Robert Kwan and Fanny Lai, the doyen of Hello Kitty. And you guessed it, just like the SMRT, food and catering took centre stage and not the animals. Ticket prizes shot up, food caused a bomb, and locals were prized out.
The current CEO was formerly with F&N and yes , another food and beverage man. Can you imagine his interview and how he convinced the board of directors his suitability to run the zoo. They probably asks him to how to price the drinks and food.
Well Bernard spends his time in Bali and travels the world designing zoos and wildfire parks. While we spend a fortune in scholarships and grants on foreigners looking for creativity and talent.
