When it's a "suay" job in life and after death?

Fridays were sacred to Mr Darshan Singh, Singapore's long-time hangman.

Mr Singh, who retired in 2005 after being hangman for about four decades, was fond of talking about how he spent his Fridays playing hockey and cricket.

It was also the day when he was the hangman, said his wife Jeleha Haji Said.

Her husband, now 82, would leave for the Singapore Recreation Club for the ball games after work, said Madam Jeleha, 85.

Perhaps it was his way of dealing with his feelings, she said.

He never discussed regret about his work, sticking to a line he had used with her for decades – it was his job.
