SINGAPORE: The Manpower Ministry (MOM) said it is concerned over the spate of accidents that have taken place in the past few days following another worksite accident on Wednesday.

The latest incident is the second work accident to occur this week. MOM is urging companies to proactively carry out thorough risk assessments and enforce safety measures to ensure the safety of their workers.

The accident on Wednesday happened at 11.40am at Lian Soon Construction Pte Ltd's worksite at Toa Payoh North.

Six workers - three from Bangladesh, two from China and one from Malaysia - were working on a scaffold when it collapsed.

Five workers sustained injuries and were immediately sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Three of them - a Bangladeshi, a Chinese national and a Malaysian - have since been discharged.

The sixth worker from China was treated on-site for minor injuries.

MOM's director of occupational safety and health inspectorate, Mr Chan Yew Kwong said, "Most workplace accidents could have been prevented if companies and workers had put in more effort to ensure that the risks have been identified and mitigated. MOM will take stern action against companies found to have flouted safety regulations and placed their workers' lives at risk."

On September 30, two workers were killed when a crane toppled at the construction site of the National Art Gallery, near the Padang. Four others were injured in the same accident.
