SINGAPORE: The 34-year-old driver involved in the fatal crash that took place on the Central Expressway (CTE) in the early hours of National Day last Friday has been released on police bail.

His driving licence has also been suspended.

The accident left four people dead.

23-year-old Singaporean Amron Ayoub had been driving his Korean girlfriend, Ms Jamie Song Jisoo, and her family to the airport.

They were travelling in Mr Amron's family car on the CTE in the direction of Seletar Expressway when a tyre burst.

Mr Amron pulled up at a chevron area near the Yio Chu Kang exit to fix the tyre, and all of them got out of the vehicle.

Mr Amron, Ms Song and her parents were apparently standing behind the car when another car hit them.

Only Ms Song's brother was unhurt.

The other driver was arrested for dangerous driving, causing death.

Channel NewsAsia understands that even though he is currently out on bail, he can still be charged at a later date.

The above is the latest report on the horrific CTE accident.

Read it carefully. The identities of all the victims have all been released. By now we know the tragic love story of former poly student and his girlfriend who is Korean. We even know the ages of all the victims and nationalities. Even the passenger who escape death we know is a Korean golfer based in China. However until now the driver's identity has been guarded and the.mainstream media refuses to release it. They should just release this information ad not hide it..what purpose does it serve to not tell us? Et the facts surrounding this be know so that we can try to avoid such tragedies in future. How does keeping these facts under wraps help to foster confidence?

Why are Singaporeans interested? It is not for negative reasons of targeting foreigners for blame for such accidents but because of reasons of safety of our roads for all.

See, after the Ma Chi Ferrari accident, many Singaporeans ask the govt to look into the licensing of foreign drivers. As we know the Singapore driving test is very thorough and test all skills set and safety awareness of drivers. Many countries require retesting of drivers from certain countries because it is a known fact that license can be purchased or the tester can be bribed in these countries.

For safety reasons and to prevent the loss of lives on our streets, we would like driving standards to be ensured just like Singapore drivers who have to take local driving test...and our driving test are of certain standards and rigor to ensure fewer lives are lost on our streets.

So far tracking the statistics of severe accidents including those that involve public buses, the trend shows a disproportionate number of accidents involving drivers with foreign licenses. it is not a question of just nationality alone because accidents can be caused by a Singaporean to obtained a license from a foreign country where driving licenses are easily obtained which is another possible gap

If there is gap here in the issuance of license, it is important to fix it before more tragedies occur on our streets. This is not a pro or anti foreigner issue but a safety issue. There is talk that the govt does not want to retest these drivers because it will deter foreigners with money to buy cars from settling here ...concern is the safsty and lifes of singaporeans are traded off.
