Mr Koh Ee Hock, 45, saw a woman being harassed by three men in a Geylang pub so he told them to stop. However, he was then attacked with choppers and a knife.

The incident happened at the After Dark pub in Geylang in the early hours of January 7, reported The Straits Times.

Yesterday, thugs Yap Kian Yong, 35, Lombard Leon, 33, and Henry Ong Hock Heng, 35, were each sentenced to between eight and 14 months behind bars.

According to The Straits Times, the court heard that Mr Koh stepped in when he saw Yap holding the woman by her hair and shouting at her as his two friends stood by his side.

Mr Koh told them not to make trouble as they were there to have fun.

However, not only was Mr Koh warned not to get involved, the trio also left the pub to return armed a few minutes later.

Mr Koh tried to run, but they hit him on his head with the choppers, which left him needing stitches to his head.

The trio were all charged with causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, in addition to other charges.

Yap, who was jailed for 14 months, was also charged with criminal misappropriation as he had taken $60,000 which was part of a sum of money wrongly transferred to him by Hotel 81, instead of reporting it.

Leon, who received a 10-month prison sentence, was also charged with possession of codeine and promethazine for sale without a licence. He sold codeine to addicts in Geylang for $15 a bottle.

Both Ong and Leon were also charged with possession of a chopper. Ong will serve eight months in prison.

The maximum punishment for causing hurt with a deadly weapon is seven years in jail and a fine or caning.
