I'm a pro-microsoft user until IPhone came along and completed changed my stance. Now I'm looking for IPad to use and implement it in our company. It says a lot on much an impact on me to sway from Microsoft notebook to IPad.

Steve Jobs had fucked up everyone's life by advocating that big enterprise should steal ideas from smaller companies and then sue them until they go broke and everybody should agree on whatever he think its right.

This includes that you can assumed you didn't have a daughter by just saying I am not fertile. And only idiots hold their phone like THAT. His money is HIS money. What the hell does he care about other poorer people, go bark on someone else like Bill Gates. But I give it to the man for teaching on a lesson on how to manipulate stocks to your advantage.

Don't just sing praise just because everyone else is doing it. SJ may be a great inventor, but as a human, he is a total failure.

He gave us choice.

A choice of whether to change to his version or stay mainstream.

A choice of non-conformance or mainstream conformance.

He is a good check and balance...Apple will slowly fade away until a worthy successor comes along.

And...I chose to be on the Android and Microsoft camp - because more than 90% of the world is on it. But for the 10% who isn't, that is their choice.

Steve Jobs and Apple has contributed to so much in technology that many people have just took it for granted. This is my own personal list of contributions:

1) Mac OS-- GUI based programming. This was so successful that Microsoft sort of "copied" from them. But of course critics would say Apple is not the first to invent GUI (Xerox did), but they did bring it to the public. As Steve Jobs mentioned in one of his keynotes, Microsoft Windows is copied from Mac.

2) Integrating mouse with GUI programming-- Apple did not invent the mouse, but they are the first to integrate mouse with GUI-based programming. Three decades later, we are still using it!

3) iMac-- the first all-in-one. Many PC-based all-in-ones are based from concepts from the first iMac in 1998. iMac has evolved into the current 21.5inch and 27inch. And even introduced mac Mini.

4) iTunes-- I don't consider iPod as a breakthrough, because there were numerous MP3 players prior to the introduction of iPod. iTunes is formidable, because one can easily buy music, etc with just one click of a button. This led to the foundation of App Store and Mac App Store.

5) iPhone-- No need elaborating. But it's interesting to note that Nokia, Blackberry and Microsoft were passing sarcastic remarks about iPhone having no physical buttons after Steve Jobs introduced it in 2007. Oh, and how they have to eat back their words years later! Apple did not invent touch-screen, but they integrate it so well into the user interface that many hand-set companies have to copy it.

6) iPad-- Sure. People say it's a giant iPod Touch. But have one really used an iPod Touch? I have one, and it can do everything except making cellular calls. So a giant one makes perfect sense!

So you can see the impact Apple has brought. Of course the entire team has to be given credit, but it's Steve Jobs vision and passion that brought about all these possible.

How many college drop-outs can start up a company and revolutionize the market once, only to be thrown out, and one decade later went back into his own company and revolutionize three different industries i.e. media player industry, phone industry, tablet industry and also the multi-billion App Store concept?

Like him or loathe him, he has made a dent in the universe. Remember, it's because of Apple's success that rivals such as Microsoft Windows, Google Android, Samsung all rise and become successful and create competition. And it's no wonder all three of them paid tribute to Steve Jobs as well. :)

How do you judge a person against his invention or progress?

He may have advocated stealing ideas from small companies. But he revolutionized everyone's habit of surfing the net while on the move.

To use history as an example, medical grounds will not be broken if not for the bold (and inhumane) experiments done by the US and Germans during the World Wars.

Let's remember him for the good he has brought, cause indeed we have all changed for the better in how we live our life.

I applaud him, for the boldness, in pushing out the initial apple products without going through extensive market research.

R.I.P

1. Adam and his apple
2. Newton and his apple

thanks to steve jobs i got a cool ipod nano to listen to my music while commuting between point A to point B...but also thanks to steve jobs, people sitting beside one another are more interested to play with their phones and ipads rather than have a decent conversation...he didnt change my life...but i can see that the iphone and ipad has drastically changed the fabric of social interaction...from offline to online...as a result of which, ppl seem to have lesser eq... :(

I used Macintosh more than 10 years ago in my workplace.
After that, I never have any contact with Apple products.
I'm not a gadget-crazy type of person.

For sure, a Steve Jobs type of person will not happen in a highly conformist society like Singapore. Steve Job is just like an American Ah Beng - not so good in studies, taking drugs, dropping out half way in the university.

That Steve Jobs can exist in America and cannot survive in Singapore, is a great difference between what is a real super power and what is a just another boring, soul-less modern city.

God bless Steve Jobs and wish he will rest in peace.

The Apple III, unlike the Apple II series, was a business computer so it's no surprise if not many people saw it or talked about it.

It's understandable if you had never heard about, seen, or touched an Apple III but did you even read the article you used to backup your claim that it's a piece of crap?

Sure, it had its problems like all IT products and its sales was only 5-10% of the Apple IIs but it's profit was 6 times that of the Apple IIs. That's the genius of Steve Jobs.

*chortles

I remember when you had to connect your computer to the TV and make boot disks to play DOOM, so where do you get off assuming im a child of the Net Age?

yeah damn right i read the article:
Steve Jobs insisted on the idea of no fan or air vents – in order to make the computer run quietly.

Mr JOBS not Mr Wozniak ;)

Yeah i read further
For a variety of reasons, the Apple III was a commercial failure. LOL FAILZORS MUCH

The Apple III's problems occurred in the year it shipped, 1980, under the direction of Apple's Vice President of Product, Steve Jobs.

Uh huh im not an Apple-phile you can see.

Gotta remember when Apple had to eat humble pie from MS - yáll apple bitches dont like to remember that, right? Nor when Apple allied with IBM:D

Oh, and by remember this piece of crap, i do mean i remember my father yelling crap about that piece of shit he bought for several thousands dollars and only worked when it felt like it.;)

i also once used DATAMINI and IPC computers , so yeah i can comment on the early models.

Where's apple's next gen revolutionary tech like MS Surface and MS Kinect , and/or actually allowing people to goddamn change their goddamned own Iphone batts?

I have also personally seen several IPhones freeze up and shit like that, so not everything the man shat out of his brain pan was instant win

In an ironic way, Steve Jobs the non-conformist resonates with me in the sense that I will not follow the main stream of having an iCrap in my hands. There are alternatives out there that allows greater freedom.

Never been a fan of Apple for a couple of reasons but mostly, for their preponderance for removing your freedom. I don't fancy the idea that am beholden to Apple to change my battery, to go to them for software and basically have my balls handed to them in order to enjoy their product. For a music player and/or a smartphone, I'll have a Sony. For a tablet, I'll have a Samsung. Apple has done nothing for me. :D

I just find that for someone of his cult status, its a pity he hasn't done more for humanity.
